Help at the drawing board.
Most of our work starts with a consulting engineer, long before anything is bid. Here is what you can ask us for at each stage of a design, and what to send.
The questions behind the equipment.
Bring us the application rather than the model number. These are the areas where that conversation usually goes.
Continuity and ride-through
UPS topology and redundancy: monolithic or modular, parallel or 2N, battery or flywheel, and how much runtime the generator start really needs. Static transfer for single-corded loads.
Standby and transfer
Open, delayed or closed transition, bypass-isolation and service-entrance switches, and keeping emergency, legally required and optional standby branches apart under NEC 700, 701 and 702.
Power quality
Harmonic distortion at the point of common coupling under IEEE 519: passive or active filtering, K-rated and harmonic-mitigating transformers, drive isolation. Regulation for sags and swells, and power factor correction detuned for drives.
Surge and grounding
Where Type 1 and Type 2 surge protection belongs and what the exposure calls for. High- and low-resistance grounding for plants that must ride through a ground fault, and isolated power for operating rooms.
Batteries and DC
Stationary batteries for UPS, switchgear tripping and telecom: chemistry by room, temperature and replacement cycle, chargers, and monitoring that finds a weak cell before a discharge does.
Energy storage
BESS siting and fire protection under NFPA 855 and UL 9540A, the package an AHJ will ask for, and interconnection under IEEE 1547.
Egress lighting
Central inverters to UL 924, runtime by occupancy, the NFPA 101 test regime, and control for fixtures that are switched or normally off.
Testing and temporary power
Connections for a rental generator when the permanent set is down, and load banks for commissioning and the NFPA 110 tests.
Where we come in.
Budget and lead timeEarly design
A budget while the design is still moving, and a lead time with what it rests on.
Send the spec section, or describe the system.Guide specificationsWriting the spec
Editable guide specifications from the manufacturers we carry, matched to your application.
Tell us the family and the application.Technical presentationsAny time
An hour for your team on a product family: how it works, where it fits, and what to watch for in a spec.
Tell us the topic and the team.Submittals and substitutionsSubmittals
A complete package, with any deviation from your spec section stated up front. An alternative comes with a side by side against what you specified, and questions during your review get answered.
Your questions, while you review.Technical presentations for your team.
Products reach the market faster than anyone can read about them. We bring a product family to your team: how it works, where it fits, and what to watch for in a specification. New equipment, or established equipment that has quietly changed.
What we carry.
Every family page is written to be read with a spec open: types, ranges, configurations and listings, and who builds each.
A question about an application, a spec section you want a second read on, or a session for your team. Call or write, whichever suits.
